REGISTRATION OF A TENO BOAT
Registering a boat in Teno for fishing purposes
When fishing in the main channel of the River Teno, regardless of the boat's size, only boats registered by the Lapland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre) before 2021, or by the Teno Fisheries Management Area during or after 2021, may be used. Registration marks have been produced for this purpose, which, in addition to the national boat registration number, include the 'FIN' code indicating that the boat is Finnish. These registration marks are issued when the boat is registered; they must not be made by the owner.
Boats may be registered as follows:
Holders of fishing rights who are permanent residents in the river valleys of the Teno River water system may register up to three boats. Holders of fishing rights who are permanent residents in the river valleys of the Teno River water system and who also operate a tourism business may register up to 15 boats. Other fishermen permanently resident in the river valleys of the Teno River water system may register a maximum of one boat. Holders of fishing rights who are not permanent residents of the area may register one boat per property.
The boat owner must provide evidence of their entitlement to register the boat.
A boat registered in the Teno River waterway system's boat register and identified by a Teno boat registration number must not be used outside the Teno River waterway system. It is prohibited to transfer the registration plate or use it on a boat other than the one for which it was registered; any damage to or loss of the plate must be reported immediately to the Teno Fisheries Area's local licence sales point in Utsjoki (Traficom). If the boat owner no longer meets the conditions for registration, the boat must be removed from the register and the registration plate must be returned without delay to the Teno Fisheries Area.
Boats intended for fishing on the River Teno are registered at the Tenon kalatalousalue local licence sales point in Utsjoki, at Luossa 1, kunnantalo (town hall).
Boats can only be registered during the fishing season.
The Tenon boat register is maintained by Traficom, but the Tenon fisheries region is responsible for registration and boat identification numbers.
